An iconic wedding arch bursting with elegant blooms? Check. That bespoke, four tier wedding cake with intricate lace detailing inspired by your recently ordered wedding dress that had your loved ones sobbing at the fitting? Check, and, check.
As part of your planning, you’ll need a wedding invitation that truly reflects the modern, stylish day you have planned. This little piece of post is the first insight into your wedding that your guests will have; it really sets the tone. So let’s explore how we can take a wedding invitation and make it feel just that little extra luxurious. Because, if not for your wedding, then when?
Before I begin, I do think it’s important to share that it’s impossible to “define” luxury. It’s one of those words regularly used throughout the wedding industry but what luxury means to you and what luxury means to another couple could be completely different. These are just my thoughts on what I love and personally identify as luxurious, and what added touches you can consider when ordering your wedding invitations with Dwynwen. For me, it’s all about those finer details and finishing touches.
1. Add a Venue Illustration
A watercolour illustration of your wedding venue adds an elegant artistry to your invitation that both you and your guests are sure to love. It takes time, practise and expertise to create a beautifully detailed watercolour venue drawing so it’s easy to see how its addition to your invitation suite instantly makes your stationery feel more bespoke and luxurious. You can also continue to make use of your venue drawing across your other items of stationery, such as your welcome sign, table plan or perhaps your guests’ menu cards – making it a worthwhile investment.
2. Opt for Letterpress on a pillowy cotton stock
Be like Dwynwen couple Ellie & Dafydd who had their hearts’ set on letterpress from the minute they received their wedding stationery sample pack. Their modern wedding invitation was pressed into a gorgeously tactile, cotton-mix paper with a subtly hammered, earthy texture that perfectly complements their upcoming 2023 wedding at The Haybarn, Hereford. The softness of cotton paper results in a beautiful impression into the paper that’s impossible not to fall in love with and will always be my recommended paper of choice.
3. Make your invitation sparkle with foiling
Foiling is a personal favourite of mine, you just can’t beat how beautiful your wedding invitations will look when the foil catches the light. Dwynwen couple Lucy and Austin opted for gold foiling across their entire 4 piece wedding invitation suite for a glamorous and stylish finish.
4. Who run the world? pearls
Pearls are an on-trend choice for 2023 couples, with this classic embellishment making a resurgence in bridal fashion, through reimagined, modern applications fit for a contemporary aesthetic. From pearl embellished headbands, jewellery and accessories, to pearl lace and fully embellished bridal gowns, they’ve dominated the catwalk and so it only felt right to also introduce them to wedding stationery in a delicate, classy, and subtle way. This pearl embellished vellum wrap has been an instant favourite with Dwynwen couples since its introduction earlier this Spring.
5. The romantic finishing touch: silk ribbon
Dwynwen invitations are all about simple, modern design with romance at it’s very heart – and there’s little else prettier and more romantic than adding hand-dyed, raw edge silk ribbon to your wedding invitations. Stunning and delightfully soft to touch, silk ribbon makes the experience of opening your invitation like unwrapping a gift. I admit, it’ll bulk out your envelopes a touch, especially if it’s tied in a bow as shown here – but is it worth it? It’s a resounding yes from me.
6. White wedding? white ink
White ink is the perfect way to print your invitations for a unique finish. The contrast of white ink against a dark colour paper stock is striking, especially when used on black paper for a modern look that’s perfectly suited for weddings at the stylishly monochrome Sant Ffraed House. Pictured, white ink has been used in a much softer way, printed onto a transparent vellum sleeve for a delicately layered, lace-inspired look.
7. Premium quality envelopes
Once an upgrade, now standard – because they’re absolutely worth it. New for 2023, all orders that require envelopes are priced to include a premium, heavyweight 130gsm envelope. Available in a range of colours, they’re the perfect way to introduce your wedding colour palette whilst retaining a simpler, classic look to the invitation itself, and makes sure that your invitation stands out from the crowd as it’s posted through your guests’ letterboxes. Seal your wedding envelopes with a botanical wax seal for that added touch of luxury. Here’s our range of available colours:
